2018 GMC Sierra 1500 performance and towing capabilities
The standard 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 comes with a 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine that can generate 383 lb-ft of torque to power through any tough obstacle and gets about 23 MPG highway. The base level has a maximum towing capacity of 11,000 lbs. and payload of 2,170 lbs. That’s a lot to haul, but it’s only the start.
The next step up is a 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine to give you just a bit of extra power if you’re looking for something like that. The bigger engine brings the power up to 460 lb-ft of torque and 420 horsepower for some serious increase in power. This new engine means it can tow up to 12,500 lbs. It gets that power without having to sacrifice much fuel economy, still getting 21 mpg highway.
There is also a smaller 4.3L V6 engine available as well that offers a bit less power for a slightly better fuel economy, getting 24 highway mpg. It generates 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque, which means it can tow 5,500 lbs.
