WINTER DRIVING TIPS

Driving in winter can be challenging compared to seasons with milder conditions. Sometimes it can seemingly happen overnight; We wake up one morning to snow and icy roads and driving conditions that have changed drastically. Safe winter driving starts with having your vehicle inspected and prepared.

VEHICLE PREPARATION

One of the most important things to consider for winter driving is vehicle preparation. During winter, the treads on your tires, battery health, and windshield wipers are crucial to have functional. It is also vital that you have been keeping up with Oil changes. These elements all get checked in our service department’s Multi-point Inspection. Having your vehicle quit or malfunctioning during a snowstorm can be stressful and frustrating. By ensuring that your vehicle has been adequately taken care of, you reduce the risk of having an accident or a breakdown.

HANDLING

Another important factor for safe winter driving is how you handle your vehicle. The time it takes to accelerate or decelerate your vehicle increases on the ice. Always be sure to leave more room than you usually would between you and the car in front of you. Ice and snow can also make it increasingly difficult when driving on steep inclines. By paying close attention to your surroundings and leaving an adequate distance between you and the car in front of you, you minimize the risk of having an accident.

If your car breaks down when the weather is cold and harsh, we always recommend that you stay with your vehicle and call for assistance. The following list of items is critical to keep with you in the event of a breakdown.

  • Blankets/warm clothes
  • Charged cellphone
  • Flashlight
